my first potatoes, think they were pentland Javelins. Its true what they say, I cooked them within an hour of digging them up which was exciting enough they taste like heaven
The first Cabbage, planted back in November has been eaten and its true what they say, I have never tasted a cabbage that good before.
The potatoes are well away as are the beans and peas and I have already had some strawberries
Tomatoes are looking good but most of the young brassicas have been attacked by pigeons, so elaborate netting has been installed.

Easter Weekend saw the arrival of a skip and just about everyone turned up to help tidy up the site, at last I have got rid of all that carpet. once the skip was full a huge bonfire saw to the rest including the deralict shed on the adjacent plot.

All of my spuds have been planted and some are starting to show only a couple of weeks later
I have planted all sorts of things with varying results leeks look good, tomatoes, okra, pumpkins and squash are all comming through. lettuce has started to appear and my broad beans are a couple of inches tall, no sign of the peas, peppers or herbs guess I am a bit impatient.
I will post a plan of where everyting is going when I get a chance

The lovely couple I met the first day I came to look around the allotments have kindly given me about 25 raspberry canes which are now planted
Snow followed by lots of rain hasn’t stopped the biggest erection yet……. the greenhouse.
9 bags of concrete mix to support the base and a couple of days off work and its done. All that tramping about in the wet soil has turned the surrounding area into a bog, cant wait for it to dry up so I can tidy up

A Touch of Frost
Business as usual, been digging out as much of the bindweed as possible and burning it.
Planted some Rhubarb and some asparagus and went a bit mad buying seed potatoes which are busy chitting in the coldest room in the house, our bedroom

A few other bargains, got some strawberry plants 3 in each bag for £1.50 I potted them up and they have doubled in size over the weekend

I have dug over the lumpy bit and was quite relieved not to unearth anything sinister however I did find a tooth and some bits of clay pipe
This is how it looked when I took it on, Nicely Carpeted and surrounded by nettles. the main problem is bindweed and lots of it… best get digging…
After taking on the allotment last month I have spent any spare time I have staring at the ground and digging out handfuls of weeds, the good points are that I have built a shed, planted some onion sets, garlic and some spring cabbage.
Thats a lot of manure, Its taken me the best part of 2 days to move it from the path to the plot
